The Gubbio Project has been in residence at St. John’s the Evangelist since 2016, providing a consistent, compassionate presence for our community. In Partnership with A Purpose Program, we offer a range of services designed to support the well-being, dignity, and stability of every guest who walks through our doors.
Through these partnerships, we are able to expand access to care, deepen our impact, and ensure that our guests receive holistic support in a safe and welcoming environment.
Partnership with A Purpose Program
The Foot Mobile: 4th Tuesday of the Month: 9:00am-12:00pm
Description of Service: Mobile Foot Care Clinic brings certified foot and nail care nurses with experience serving the elderly and people experiencing homelessness that have foot deformities, mobility issues, Parkinson's, diabetes, and other conditions or complications. The nurses provide services in the home or at a facility and adhere to the highest standards of infection prevention and control.
Massage Services Gubbio partners with the Care Through Touch Institute to provide head/neck/upper back massage: 2nd & 4th Monday of the Month. 9:30am-11:30am.
Street Medicine Team: Whole Person Integrated Care, SFDPH: Mondays and Thursdays. 9am-Noon.
Description of Service: The Maria X Martinez Health Resource Center’s community outreach team offers a broad range of low-barrier healthcare services for vulnerable adults in San Francisco, especially people experiencing homelessness. Patients can receive assessment and care for non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries. They also provide medications for addiction treatment (e.g., buprenorphine) and transitional primary care services.
Full Belly Bus’ Mobile Pet Care Team: 3rd Monday of each month. Noon-1pm.
Description of Service: Pet food distribution to the community via Full Belly Bus’ mobile pet care team. Pilot dog vaccination program provided twice yearly to Gubbio guests.
Clean Slate Clinic: Public Defenders Office: Fourth Mondays: 10:00am-11:00am
Description of Service: The Clean Slate Clinic is a free service provided by the Public Defenders Office. The clinic offers assistance in accessing legal support to help reduce felonies, seal criminal records, expunge convictions, and erase criminal history.
The Native American Health Center: Tuesdays. 10:00am-12:00pm.
Description of Service: The Native American Health Center, located at 160 Capp St. in the Mission, is a community clinic open to everyone that offers medical, dental, behavioral health, and community wellness services. The Community Wellness Department provides outreach services including condom distribution, food and hygiene kits, rapid HIV testing, and linkages to care.
Swords to Plowshares Outreach Services Team: 3rd Tuesday of each month. 10:00am-12:00pm.
Description of Service: Provides counseling & case management, access to emergency housing & other critical needs, needs assessment, program, service & community referrals.
Gubbio Art Pop Up: Every Tuesday: 9:00am - 11:00am.
Description of Service: Ina, a retired art teacher, guides weekly art projects for guests. Projects can range from Painting, Collages, Drawing , and more!
UCSF Mobile Vaccine Clinic/wound care: 10:00am-2:00pm
Description of Service: Targeted Community COVID Vaccination Initiative via UCSF Medical Center. UCSF’s Mobile Vaccination Team provides Flu, COVID and M-POX vaccines and vaccination/health outreach both onsite and in the general area. Woundcare is offered weekly.
SFCCC/San Francisco Community Clinic Consortium/Street Outreach Services (SOS): Third Wednesdays of the month: 9:30-11:30AM.
Description of Service: Primary care provider(s), e.g., physician(s) or nurse practitioner(s), as available, to staff a monthly “suitcase” clinic, to provide urgent and primary care services, referrals, and follow-up
The Harm Reduction Therapy Center Mobile Services: Every Wednesday: 2:30pm-5:00pm
Description of Service: HRTC has licensed mental health clinicians available to assist patients with mental health disorders. They focus on substance use and treatment, Food, Street Medicine, and Massage. The team provides water, food, hygiene and first aid supplies.
Writing Workshop: Wednesdays: 2:30pm-4:00pm
Description of Service: Sara, offers writing classes where guests can write in their own journal that will be kept at Gubbio so it stays safe. Writing can be anything from Poetry, writing about personal experiences, to creating a story.
Meditation and Breathwork: Wednesdays: 5:00pm-6:00pm
Description of Service: Lesley, an experienced yoga, meditation and breathwork instructor leads weekly classes to help guests unwind at the end of the day. She uses different strategies and tools such as sound bowls, harmoniums, singing and calming oils to calm the nervous system.
San Francisco Aids Foundation: Programa Latino: Thursdays. 9am-Noon.
Description of Service: The Programa Latino Latinx Outreach Team conveys HIV health and sexual risk reduction practices to non-acculturated and monolingual Spanish speakers regardless of their immigration status and who have difficulty navigating the labyrinthine systems of HIV care and prevention. They also provide Substance Health and Social Support services to Spanish-speaking community members.
Monthly Community Overdose and Medicated Assistance Treatment Trainings with the Health Disparities (HD) Program | Office of Health Equity (OHE): Third Thursday of the month: 10:30 am - 11:30am.
Description of Service: Community based training for guests to learn Overdose Reversal and gain insight and information about Medicated Assistance Treatment in both English and Spanish.
Monthly Testing with DPH for HIV/ HEP B&C: Fourth Thursday of the month: 9:30 am - 12:00pm.
Description of Service: DPH and the SFAIDS foundation offer on site rapid testing for HIV/AIDS, HEP B and HEP C. They offer resources for anyone suffering from these conditions, and support them through the process of treatment and help.
Glide: Behavioral Health + Wellness Services: The 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 11:00am - 1:00pm
Description of Service: Glide Behavioral Health and Wellness Team brings together integrated services and resources to support individuals throughout San Francisco communities. Through group gatherings which include “Emotional Resilience, Grief + Trauma, Your Brain + Addiction, Healing with Music, What's the Tea?

Department of Public Works: Adopt-A-Street Program:n Monday through Friday. DPW Trash Pick-up at 10:00am Daily.
Description of Service: The Adopt-A-Street Program is a partnership between the City and its merchants and residents. Groups or individuals agree to adopt an area and take responsibility for keeping the street, sidewalk, and storm drain clean. In return, we provide free street cleaning supplies, and litter and compostable leaf bag pickup.
Simply The Basics: Daily distribution of hygiene products, supplies and hygiene kits to the community.
Description of Service: Gubbio staff distribute Simply the Basics hygiene products free of charge to people in need and to those experiencing homelessness.
ShelterTech: Daily Free Wifi access for Gubbio guests, staff and St. John’s staff and church community.
Description of Service: ShelterTech is a not-for-profit organization that provides internet and digital services, in some cases inclusive of required hardware and installation (collectively, the “Services”) to certain not-for-profit organizations in the Bay Area on a pro bono basis.
The Dope Project: Daily. We are a DOPE Project Distribution Site!
Description of Service: Naloxone (Narcan) distribution and supplies for people who are at the highest risk of overdose. Ongoing training by DOPE staff so that Gubbio staff are trained in overdose reversal and response.
HSH: San Francisco Homeless Outreach Team: Daily or when available by request.
Description of Service: (SFHOT) works to engage and stabilize the most vulnerable individuals by voluntarily placing them into shelter and housing or connecting with other available resources. To make these placements, SFHOT works seven days a week to provide outreach and case management to people experiencing homelessness living on the streets of San Francisco. Services are provided by small, skilled teams with expertise in the complex issues that are barriers to stability for this population. For individuals who are not ready to accept the services HSH has to offer, SFHOT continues to outreach and build motivation to ensure services are available when they are needed.
SCRT - Street Crisis Response Team: Onsite at Gubbio: Drop Off Partner. SCRT responds onsite via 911 calls for people in crisis.
Description of Service: Gubbio is a partner drop off site for SCRT when needed, so that individuals who have been in crisis are able to access our services such as safe day time sleep, linkage to care, as well as access to coffee and community.
BEST Team - Bridge & Engagement Services Team: Daily Engagement.
Description of Service: The BEST Team provides trauma-informed behavioral health assessment, engagement and therapeutic interventions to promote healing, wellness, and positive community involvement. Engagement: Serving people living on the streets with highly complex needs, who face significant barriers to access or engage with needed care, and who may experience ongoing crisis. Neighborhoods: Teams are 'place-based,' work in assigned neighborhoods 7-days a week, and provide time-limited, focused, and phased interventions to support clients in transitioning to ongoing care and support.
General Drop Off Services at Gubbio: BARTCrisis/SFPD/EMS6/SFFD/HEART Team.
Monday-Friday.
Description of Service: For drop off criteria, our services do require our guests to be respectful of those seeking a quiet, restful and safe space. The indoor drop-in is a quiet zone and our courtyard is monitored to help keep loud noise or elevated talking from disturbing those who are sleeping. If a guest needs intensive case management or is looking for support in the form of a social worker or licensed therapist, we do not currently offer these types of services.
SFDPH Condom Distribution Program: Daily Distribution.
Description of Service: Community Health Equity & Promotion Branch, Population Health Division, San Francisco Department of Public Health. The goal of the Condom Distribution Program is to reduce HIV infections by facilitating the distribution of free condoms to organizations and individuals that reach persons at risk for acquiring or transmitting HIV in San Francisco.
SFDPH BEAM Telehealth Program: Daily at our Telehealth Booth located in the church.
Description of Service: This program provides on demand telehealth visits with medical professionals who can prescribe buprenorphine or discuss methadone and other treatment options. Navigation support is also available for prescription pick up and linkage to ongoing substance use care. Gubbio provides a private phone space inside the church during operating hours.
BRIDGE: Bridge Clinic at the Family Health Center at SF General: Staff will check for availability daily when asked.
Description of Services: Referral for those looking to cut back or quit alcohol, drugs, or tobacco.
RESTORE Program: Staff will check for availability daily when asked.
Description of Services: RESTORE is an intensive substance use treatment and transition program. This is a partnership between Code Tenderloin, Five Keys, San Francisco Community Health Clinic (SFCHC), San Francisco Department of Public Health (SFDPH), and the Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH). Eligible participants are San Francisco residents experiencing homelessness, interested in initiating substance use treatment, and agreeing to a seven (7) day supported health and transition plan, including mandatory daily case management.
