Gubbio's Guiding Principles

Principle 1

All people, especially those who are living on the streets or have mental health or substance abuse issues, are worthy of respect and loving kindness.

PRINCIPLE 2

The Church has historically been an open space of sanctuary and shelter for those seeking shelter.

PRINCIPLE 3

While The Gubbio Project’s programs may evolve, our commitment remains constant: to provide a sacred space and caring services for those in need of a safe, compassionate respite that honors each person’s dignity and worth.

PRINCIPLE 4

The Gubbio Project is on the front lines of homelessness, and addresses basic needs of all people: a sense of safety, belonging, and calm.

PRINCIPLE 5

Offer help that preserves autonomy and acknowledges the other’s strengths.

PRINCIPLE 6

The Gubbio Project is rooted in unconditional care, everyone is welcome. We ask all who enter to honor our community agreements, helping us maintain a safe, respectful space for all.

PRINCIPLE 7

The Gubbio Project fosters understanding and shared responsibility among the church and surrounding neighborhood. Guided by our Good Neighbor Policy, we actively care for our shared environment and remain mindful of our presence in the community.

PRINCIPLE 8

The Gubbio Project’s homeless guests are served best by staff and volunteers who have a firsthand understanding of their struggles.
